So far this year the list of celebrations & observences has been pretty interesting, and the Fall is no different.

    October - December allows us to observe and celebrate a season of change and festivities from
    the fall foliage and pumpkin patches, to Halloween, All Saints Day, Thanksgiving, and not to mention,
    Daylight Savings (fall back).  Its a time for football, basketball, golf, ice hockey, and early skiing.

    RSVP ONLINE ('accept' or 'decline' the invitation)
    RSVP stands for the French phase "répondez, s'il vous plaît" which means, "please reply" or "kindly respond". When responding, the event host needs to have a headcount so that they may properly plan for each invited guest. Your response is important because the headcount is needed for preparing event services such as catering menus and facilities seating.

    Wouldn't it be awful if you just showed up and there was no entree set aside for you at a sit-down reception dinner? What if seats were assigned and you had to stand because the host didn't expect you? Did you realize that the host pays for your attendance even before you respond and can make adjustments only if they receive your response in a timely manner. All of this can be avoided by showing common courtesy to the person(s) extending the invitation to you. What do these examples all really mean?

    Well, it means that now that you know better, you can do better. Mail back those pre-stamped reply cards, call the RSVP contact, or submit your response online or via email. The event host/hostess has a tough job - in making everyone feel welcome, so go ahead and help them to help you avoid senseless embarrassment by "kindly responding" -even if your response is no, in which case, you'd send your regrets and perhaps even add a "wish we could be there" message too. See? It's just that simple.
